Sharing The Future Okavango Research Results / Partilha dos Resultados de Investigação do Projecto Futuro Okavango
The video was conceived, filmed and directed by the TFO paraecologists Mukuya Robert, Miguel S. Hilario and Kwamovo Meshack to communicate some of the project’s research results to rural dwellers in Angola, Namibia and Botswana. The film is the outcome of a participatory film workshop organised by Ute Schmiedel (University of Hamburg), Martin Gruber (University of Bremen) and Vilho Mtuleni (SASSCAL Windhoek). Bridging the Gap. Para-ecologists in Action. The film „Bridging the Gap“ is based on a participatory approach. The protagonists not only shot the film themselves, but also took part in the conception and implementation of the project. The group first discussed and agreed upon the focus and key messages of the film. After that, the participants were introduced to camera and sound recording as well as to different documentary styles. During the shooting of the film, they took over different roles such as director, cinematographer or actor.

Honey – Huchi
The film depicts the process of honey production and consumption. It was conceived and shot by a group of villagers from the Cusseque area of Angola for The Future Okavango project (TFO) to communicate the important aspects of their use of natural resources and discuss related issues. The participatory film was produced during a workshop facilitated by Martin Gruber of the University of Bremen together with TFO paraecologist Miguel S. The Secret of Our Environment
The film was conceived and shot by a group of villagers from Seronga, Botswana for The Future Okavango project (TFO) to communicate aspects of their relationship with the natural environment and discuss related problems — within the project and to a wider audience. Focussing on the complex interplay between wildlife, tourism, fishing and farming, the film shows how natural resources are an integral part of the rural population’s everyday lives. The film consists of interviews and two re-enacted sequences in which the workshop participants demonstrate important activities to the audience in a playful and humorous way. The participatory film was produced during a workshop facilitated by Martin Gruber of the University of Bremen together with TFO paraecologist Meshack Kwamovo in Seronga in February and March 2013. Liparu Lyetu – Our Life
The film was conceived and shot by a group of villagers from the Mashare Area of Namibia for The Future Okavango project in order to communicate their land-use strategies to the project and to a wider audience. The film shows the different ways in which natural resources contribute to the rural population’s livelihoods and discusses related problems. The participatory film was produced during a workshop facilitated by Martin Gruber of the University of Bremen together with Raphael Sinkumba and TFO paraecologist Robert Mukuya in Mashare in May and June 2011.
